Chi’s Man Of The Year is also a member of the 1997 inaugural class of the Chi Chapter Hall of Fame. William Topercer ’58 has been enjoying retirement for 15 years now, after leaving VION, a company he co-founded in 1996.
Founded in 1980, the VION Corporation is a privately held government contractor specialized in selling, installing, and supporting large computer installations in departments and agencies of the federal government, both civilian and military. Upon departing, Topercer kept things “in house” and sold the company to several key employees.
Long before he was co-founding a successful business venture, he was “Bongo”, Chi Undergraduate, where he served as his pledge class president, and later as a Chapter Vice President.
After graduating with a BSIM in 1961, he spent time with Success Savings and Loan, IBM, and various sales and management positions in the burgeoning computer industry before founding VION.
Brother Topercer has been active in the community, sitting on the Oncology Advisory Council at Johns Hopkins Oncology Center (1998-present) and the Board of Governors, Congressional Country Club (1991-1998), where he also served as President in 1996 and 1997.
In 1999 Topercer received the Krannert School Of Management Distinguished Alumnus Award.
William and Betty have three children, William, Kirsten, and Jason.
“Kappa Sigma gave me an opportunity to associate with a close knit organization. Purdue is a big institution and without something like Kappa Sigma it’s easy to go for four years and just exist. Kappa Sigma helped to bring a shy boy out of his shell.”
